2023.01 New York City and Caribbean Cruise (Part 10)

After St. Maarten, the next morning, we awoke with the ship already at Castries, St. Lucia.  This was the only port of call where we didn’t have an excursion booked.  And, as a result we had a relaxing day.

Castries, St. Lucia

Without the rush of having to be organized for an excursion, we took our time having breakfast.  Then we sat out on our balcony and enjoyed the heat and humidity while we overlooked the port and duty free area.  When we headed into town, we had no wait to disembark the ship, and quickly got a taxi into town.  Little Miss wanted to pick up something from a pharmacy, so that’s where we started our journey back to the ship.

I enjoyed walking through the pharmacy, as it was more like a general store with a pharmacy counter at the back of the store.  From there we walked through a market filled with a mix of local artworks, crafts and more typical touristy items.

Although it was a short walk back to the port, in the heat and lack of shade certainly heated us up.  Upon getting back to port we had lunch and then walked through the shops before boarding the ship.

As the ship left port we got a good view of the runway and airport that was located just past the port.

It was a relaxing day at Castries.  Honestly, after hearing about how much driving some excursions had, ours was definitely less stressful and missing the winding roads around the hilly island.
