2023.01 New York City and Caribbean Cruise (Part 9)
Our third port of call was St. John’s, Antigua. Our planned excursion was to feed Stingrays, and it didn’t disappoint.
St. john’s, Antigua
Docking in Antigua, the ship felt even bigger then the other stops. For this port of call we joined Little Miss’ sister, nephew and niece. The drive out to Stingray City had us cross almost the entire island. This was an interesting choice to decorate one’s fence:
At Stingray City we boarded a smaller boat and headed to a floating platform. This made it easy to climb down onto the shallow reef. The setup was simple and excellent. Once in the water, the employees had buckets of food to feed the stingrays. With it being in business for decades, the wild stingrays had become accustomed to coming to the reef. They effortlessly swam around our legs and allowed us to pet them as they past by. Little Miss quickly learned how to feed them, and loved our time there.
Soon enough our time was over and we headed back to the island. We had some refreshments before returning to the buses and minivans that would take us back to the port. This excursion had us back at the port around lunchtime.
Being Sunday, outside of stores opened for tourists like us, the town was quiet. As our driver joked “It’s Sunday. Everybody is at church, you’re lucky somebody was at the pier to meet the ship.”
We walked through a few stores, and didn’t find any restaurants that appealed to us. We then returned to the ship to cool off and grab some food.
