DAILY UPDATE #21 – AUSTRALIA & NEW ZEALAND 2018
Day Trip
We went to Fraser Island today. It was a day trip. The kind that starts at 5am, and ends around 6pm. That kind of day trip. So was it worth it? Most definitely!
Fraser Island
What makes this place a must visit? It has a rainforest, but gets 1/3 the annual rainfall a rainforest requirements. It has hundreds of rivers and streams. It has over 100 perched lakes, including some that are postcard perfect on any sunny day. Oh and it’s all made of sand.
No limestone, no granite or other hard material. It’s all on sand. That’s make for almost everything being an adventure.
How beautiful can an island made of sand be? How about this:
Now that is stunning! The sand was almost white, and it reflects whatever is in the sky. Today’s weather cooperated well giving us clear skies giving the stunning blue water. Although the water was initially chilly, it was refreshing and preferred very quickly during our time at the lake before lunch.
Now, how do you navigate a giant sandbar? With a little ground clearance and horsepower!
Who is more photogenic? A or B?
Amber has the picture of me standing beside this specialized truck to give a better sense of scale — it was high off the ground. Oh, and it gets great mileage when on sand, around 1l/1 km.
More about this in the full post eventually, for now, time to catch up on having two consecutive days with early starts.
