2023.01 New York City and Caribbean Cruise (Part 11)

Our final port of call had us stopping at St. Kitts and Nevis.  This would also be the busiest port as two other ships, a Princess, and an Aida cruise ship were docked for the day as well.  We had a busy day, and in retrospect booking a full day of multiple excursions was a bit much.

St. KittS Scenic Railway

We joined her parents for this excursion.  It was an early start and we were one of the first groups off the ship.  We were taken by bus to the train.

The train had two levels.  The upper level was open to the air, and given the air conditioning on the main level, we gladly opted for the air conditioned comfort.  The track is now exclusively used for this tourist train.  The track is not smooth, so there were no shortage of bumps during the train ride.  There were plenty of scenic views during the train ride.

The train ride took us across a sizeable portion of the island.  When it stopped the buses were waiting for us and they continued the lap of St. Kitts island.  Commentary about the island and history was good.

We were returned to the port, and initially both of us had hoped that we were late for our second excursion.  However, that wasn’t the case.  We arrived just in time of our second excursion.  This time with her nephew for a Rum tour.

Rum Tasting

This tour took a leisurely route through Basseterre before arriving at a historical estate that had a great vista looking down towards the sea.

Before the tasting, we were able to grab a snack and some water from the bar.  A short tour of the property took place before we were lead to a larger building, that was well air conditioned, and where the tasting took place.  The rum tasting was great, then again having multiple samples on an almost empty stomach made everything even tastier!

After the tasting we had some more time to walk about the property, visit the gift shop, that was missing the best tasting rum we tried, while I just watched the random poultry walking around the property.

We the returned to the buses and headed back to the port.  Some guests were happy with the bar as they picked up a few beer to drink on the ride back to the port and while they walked through the port before returning on board.

Here’s a slideshow of a few things between rum tasting property back to the port.

Once back at port we found the food court where we grabbed a snack to sustain us until dinner.
