2022.12 German Christmas Markets (Part 10) – Nuremberg Christmas Market

We arrived in Nuremberg while it was still light out.  Best of all was that the sun came out during the day.  Once checked-in at our hotel, and details were arranged with my brother, it would be a good evening.  Dinner and then Christmas market.  Little Miss was tired, so she passed on the market as we had a few days to explore this city.  Or so I thought…

Nuremberg Christmas Market

Located in a square in the old city, this market is one of the oldest in Germany.  I cannot recall (Wikipedia will know) the details, but this market was busy.  As well, like Dresden, this market had a large contingent of English speaking attendees — I’m guessing these two cities are on a Christmas market tour offered to Americans.  Finding the way to the market from the train station was easy as there were lights telling us we were on the right direction to the market.

The pedestrian roads were filled with stalls almost the entire way from the train station to the market.  In addition, we came across a market aimed for Children during our walk.  We didn’t stop and instead continued our walk.

One store we walked by reminded me of my childhood.

Each Christmas one relative would have a large tin mailed to us in Canada, containing multiple varieties of Christmas cookies made by Schmidt.  This is how I learned to enjoy traditional German Lebkuchen.  The large tin had different artwork each year, where my mom repurposed them once emptied of its treats.  Here, in the company’s hometown was a store with their wares on display.

At the market, these two brightly lit trees framed this church at one end of the market.  We enjoyed a drink, discussed what we could do for the few days while in the city, all the while walking through the market.

Other Highlights of Nuremberg

We concluded our time at the market, headed back to our hotels and agreed on a time to start our day tomorrow.  And that’s all of Nuremberg I saw because I woke up in the middle of the night not feeling well at all, and then proceeded to take the next day to recover.  Unlike my eye in Sydney, or her cough in Paris, I elected not to go to a clinic and just suffer through it.  By late in the afternoon my accomplishments had grown to be able to go to the lobby where we did our gift exchange, and even was able to start eating again.  It’s never enjoyable to be ill when traveling.

On the lighter side of being ill in a foreign land, was that Little Miss and my brother returned from a pharmacy with items to help me recover.  The notable item to me was that the customized Kleenex pouch proudly stated that the pharmacy was established in the 1400s!
