2023.10 Edinburgh and London (Part 3)

Our hotel for our five night stay in Edinburgh was the Bruntsfield Hotel.  Just a short bus ride from Royal mile, it was a great choice in hotel for our stay that was close to central Edinburgh, but being just a short bus ride away.  Excellent food, decent sized room, it’s an excellent option when visiting Edinburgh.

Bruntsfield Hotel

We arrived late Saturday evening.  One important note about the hotel is that due to the age of the building, although there is an elevator, expect to walk stairs.  We started by walking up the 6 or 7 stairs to get to the main entrance.  Even on our walk from the elevator to our room we had a few stairs to manage.

Check-in was quick, and we were handed key cards to our room.  The reoccurring nature of stairs throughout the hotel is due to it being a collection of buildings.  This along with the odd creak or squeak from the floors, gave it a rustic and authentic feeling.  As well, it wasn’t a simple hallway either.  I got lost looking for our room, however I wanted to blame that on the lack of sleep.

This hotel is located a short walk away (not even a few minutes) from bus stops.  As well, there is a park across the street, and near the bus stops are a few shops including a tiny grocery store if you want to pick up any essentials during your time in Edinburgh.

Room

It was a sizable room with a large wardrobe, desk and chair.  The bathroom had both a walk-in shower and bathtub.

Facing the bed was the TV, where below it was ledge that was incredibly useful to put small items that could easily be found later.

The view from our room was to the interior and looked over the breakfast terrace.

Breakfast

Our room rate included breakfast, and we certainly enjoyed it to start our day.  There was a decent buffet of cold items, cereal, cold cuts, and cheese.  Tea, coffee, water and juices were also available.

The breakfast area is in the basement, and is accessed walking through the pub.

For hot foods, we received a menu and had our choice of made-to-order items.

Enjoy the slideshow below of our breakfasts, along with the menu to select our hot food options.

The food was filling, and we enjoyed the staff as one server in particular, with her Scottish accent made her sarcastic comments sound humourous and entertaining everytime.  And this was while providing excellent customer service.  I don’t think anybody’s tea pot, or coffee cup was ever at or below half full.

Pub

Directly under the lobby on the lower floor is the pub.  It’s not open seven days a week, and during our visit it was closed on both Monday and Tuesdays.  With our jetlag we visited the pub on Sunday evening to have a meal, and we were well rewarded with good food.

She ordered the fish and chips:

And I had a cobb salad with chicken.

Both meals were tasty and fresh.  We split dessert that was just as good as the main meal.

Presentation was excellent as well.
