2018 – Part 17b – Scenic Views!
To help split up the many things we saw during this day, here is the first of the parks we saw along the Great Ocean Road.
Parks Along the Great Ocean Road
First up, a reminder of our plan for the day:
These posts will focus on what we saw as we drove along the Great Ocean Road, the fourth arrow (middle) in the map. We stopped at five of the parks, and skipped two more. Travelling west to east along the road, the first park we stopped at was the Bay of Islands.
Bay of Islands
Each of the parks have unique examples of the ocean eroding the shore causing interesting shapes and islands.
Close up of the erosion on the island closest to the mainland:
To ensure that visitors do not get too close to the edge, the walkways and lookouts have railings to prevent visitors from stomping on the vegetation and putting themselves into any trouble.
Looking west into the bay. With the steep cliff, there was no beach at this location
This park was straight forward. The lookout was a short walk from the parking lot. No visitor centre, nor public toilets were at this site.
After getting our fill of this view we returned to our car and drove east to the next stop, Bay of Martyrs.
