2018 – Part 17c – 2nd stop on Great Ocean Road
To help split up the many things we saw during this day, here is the second parks we visited along the Great Ocean Road.
Parks Along the Great Ocean Road
First up, a reminder of our plan for the day:
These posts will focus on what we saw as we drove along the Great Ocean Road, the fourth arrow (middle) in the map. We stopped at five of the parks, and skipped two of them. Travelling west to east along the road, our second stop was the Bay of Martyrs.
Island of Bays to Bay of Martyrs
The drive is short between these stops, probably a few kilometres at most. Although they were close together the difference in the view was impressive and worth the stop.
Great Ocean Road – Bay of Martyrs
This parking lot was larger in size and much closer to the bay. This park provided the ability to walk down to the beach. We didn’t join the other visitors at the beach and instead we watched as a group of people were in the walking attempting to surf. Instead we watched them get carried back on land from the surf! The signs at the lookout not only focused on the ocean but also the wildlife that can be spotted.
Unfortunately I didn’t get any pictures of the birds.
One sign that you are around a tourist spot, are these brightly painted and decorated vans. We spotted several during our trip and each had a completely different paint scheme:
And the view looking further west:
From this spot it was a longer drive to our next stop, The Grotto. It was probably 10 km, however felt longer solely because there was a bridge along the way.
