2018 – Part 31 – Hotel Review Treasury on Collins
Fresh from Tasmania we spent the afternoon watching a movie before we headed downtown to check into our next stop, the Treasury on Collins.
Location, Location, Location
Selection of this hotel was based on its central location in Melbourne. Located at the corner of Collins & Queen with a tram stop outside this hotel offered downtown Melbourne on a platter.
The hotel was a former bank, and with it being a historical building does not offer any parking on site, but nearby. This wasn’t an issue as once I parked the car we didn’t need it until we checked out on Saturday morning. The hotel rooms are in a tower constructed above the original building.
Check-in
Check-in was straight forward and efficient. Everything was explained, code for the parking garage was provided and with keys in hand we headed up to the room. Booking direct with the hotel entitles you to several extras, however I found two to be most useful. The first is access to the mezzanine, where breakfast and afternoon snacks (with wine) would available. The second, was a room upgrade when space permits. For us the Queen reservation was upgraded to a King room.
As this is an apartment style hotel, housekeeping does not occur daily. For a two night stay no housekeeping would be provided. This wasn’t of any concern to us.
Room
Plastic fobs are required to use the elevator to take you up to the mezzanine and your assigned floor. Already setup on the TV was a nice touch — Netflix. We were able to find a few shows that we had began watching at home and watched a few while we stay in on our first night.
The bed was comfortable. Not as outstanding as the Rydges bed, but close. The chocolates on the night tables made a nice treat when were resumed our road trip after our stay. The space was one main room, where the bed, couch, TV, desk, and kitchenette lined the exterior of the room.
Inside the closet was a useful treat – LAUNDRY! As it was almost a week since our last laundry day this feature was handy. We stayed in on our first night and she took laundry duty for this stop. Her only complaint was that the time to do a load of laundry was long. The machine was a combination washer and dryer, so I didn’t have a benchmark for these types of machines.
Bathroom
Overall the bathroom was good, with the best part of the bathroom was what awaited us on the counter:
I do admit this was the first time that I paid attention to the brand of soap, shampoo and conditioner offered. They felt refreshing and luxurious. The only downside not having daily housekeeping was not receiving additional products.
On-site Amenities
The main floor of the building is used as a restaurant, and based on the crowd it appeared to be a popular place as it was jammed packed both on Thursday and Friday nights. There is a gym, but we used the downtown core as our treadmill and didn’t visit the gym.
The mezzanine is a great spot. This space is used for the buffet breakfast in the morning, and then functions where snacks (buns, crackers, cookies, gummy bears) along with cans of juice, soft drinks, and water were available throughout the day.
In the afternoon, for those who have booked directly with the hotel receive a complimentary glass of wine. Seating was predominately at tables for breakfast, however this group of plush chairs (pictured) was a good spot to have an afternoon snack while I entered my daily update to the blog. Wifi both in the Mezzanine and in our room worked flawlessly without issue.
The only downside of the open space is that any noise from the restaurant will carry. It was quiet during breakfast, however during both afternoons, especially late afternoon (after 5pm) the restaurant was filled. Don’t expect this to be a silent spot. One corner of the mezzanine had a pool table available for use.
Breakfast
The Mezzanine is the location for breakfast. Options include a pancake machine, bread, buns, pastry as well as six hot items, mushrooms, beans, tomatoes, scrambled eggs, sausages and bacon. We arrived late on Friday and earlier on Saturday and there was plenty of food for all guests.
Overall
This was a great spot for us to explore downtown Melbourne. Wifi worked well, breakfast was good, and afternoon snacks and a drink is always a good thing!
