2018 – Part 34 – Hotel Review Twofold Bay Motor Inn

Our overnight spot along the A1 was in Eden, NSW.  A small town, it had several options to stay the night — I ended up selecting the Twofold Bay Motor Inn.

Check-in

Before you check-in, you need to find it.  Given that there is one main road in the town, you can’t miss this motel. Check-in is done in the office, being the first door as you enter the driveway.  It wasn’t late, maybe 6:00-6:30pm, as I entered the office where the person behind the counter immediately greeted me by name.  We were the last guests to arrive for the evening! There is no restaurant as part of the motel.  Instead we were provided with several options that were literally around the corner from us for our dinner choices.  A seamless event, and I was out the door to park the car and head to the room.

Room

I didn’t reserve anything special.  Online there is the ability to reserve a room on the upper level, or rooms with views of the ocean.  For us, we had the first room where our door, and frosted bathroom window faced the parking lot.  A nice touch is that outside of every room was a couple of chairs, so for those who had an ocean view could seat outside and enjoy the scenery.

The room itself was a good size.  The counter space upon entering was handy.  That way it wouldn’t clutter up the table and left the shelf past the closet available for luggage.  Staying one night didn’t require much luggage to be brought inside for the night.

The room was one large space with bed, sofa, TV and circular table.

Bathroom

The bathroom was straight forward, and the shower was a decent size.  Temperature and water pressure were fine.  The only downside about our room was that the frosted window above the toilet.  The issue wasn’t that it faced the parking lot, but it faced east.  It was such a glorious clear sunrise that by 6:45am the light streamed into the room that trying to return to sleep was a futile effort.

Now, to be fair the upside of the hotel facing the ocean was the brilliant view as we walked out of our room and headed to our car.  The sun, waves and ocean made it unimportant what hour it was — the view was spectacular!

Check-out was a breeze, and where I found out that it was one of the owners who checked me in the night before.  We also met his spouse and their loveable dog.  They expressed concern that a group of guests who held their morning safety briefing with their truck engines running would have waken us up.  We joked that it was the sunlight that woke us, and neither of us had heard a thing.  With a sunny day of driving we thanked them and headed out to begin our journey to Sydney.
