2022.12 German Christmas Markets (Part 11) – Nuremberg Hampton by Hilton
I selected a hotel that was close to everything we needed, parking, and walking distance to old city and Christmas markets. We had planned to spend a few days exploring this historic city with my brother, however that would not be the case.
Location, Check-in
One day, I’ll remember to take a picture of the front of the hotels we visit on our trips, but that is not for this hotel stay.
The Hampton is located just east of the main train station, and is one of many hotels beside each other. They each occupy a narrow spot of land between the railway lines, and a busy city road. This hotel location is great if you’re traveling by train as you’re maybe five minutes away from the main train station. It’s a 10 to 15 minute walk away from the historic city center of Nuremberg.
With our early arrival, we were able to find a parking spot for our vehicle in their lot. The staff at check-in were friendly and welcoming. The building is similar to both Berlin, and Frankfurt’s Hampton hotels, much more like Frankfurt because the check-in desk seamlessly transforms into a bar. Immediately to the right of check-in were the two elevators to access the rooms.
Opposite side of check-in were the elevators. The space between the elevators and front windows had some causal seating, and a doorway to their gym.
Room
We were assigned the room at the end of the hall.
Our room appeared on the floor plan to be slightly larger than the rest of the rooms.
The room was good. Even though odd number rooms face the train tracks, the building was well insulated. Only when we opened the windows to cool the room down did we notice the noise from the train. One of the mornings I watched a vintage steam locomotive passing by. Later, my brother informed me that there is a rail museum in the city, complete with an outdoor compound of trains, presumably some are kept in running order for tourist rides.
I don’t have pictures of the room as we instantly unpacked to find items and gifts for my brother. As well, planning to stay in the hotel for 3 nights we’d have plenty of time to pack later.
The bathroom had the same fixtures as both Frankfurt & Berlin, complete with a walk-in shower, that had no curtain. This allowed water to easily escape the shower area and collect on the floor.
The bed was the same firmness as Berlin, but not as firm as Frankfurt. Definitely firmer than our usual. I think this was the hotel where Little Miss unilaterally declared no further Hampton hotels in Germany owing to the firmness of the bed.
Breakfast
Little Miss loved the breakfast! This was probably because the hotel offered local Nuremberg sausages as part of the hot food. Sadly, as I got sick the first night, I had not recovered enough to trust eating something greasy before we checked out early after the second night. The breakfast area is the rest of the main floor from the bar area. There is a shortcut to the parking lot from the breakfast area as the parking is sandwiched between the building and railway tracks.
In addition to the hot food, there were cold cuts, cheese, vegetables, bread, buns, and of course, a waffle maker.
Beverages were self serve, and there were even to-go cups available in case you wanted to take your beverage with you while you explored the city.
Overall, this was a great location, and at the time of booking, a fair price considering the Christmas Market at Nuremberg are highly regarded.
