2018 – Part 58 – Gourmet in the outback

Our stay at Longitude 131 deserves more than one post.  This post is focused on the food and meals served during our stay.  Who wants to see what you eat at an all-inclusive, boutique resort?

Really, a whole post?

Yup.  After spending almost 4 weeks on our choose-our-own-adventure suddenly we went to almost the exact opposite.  During our stay we were informed of the meal times, and when to be ready for the group tours.  This felt like bliss, almost like a vacation!

Breakfast

For early morning starts there is a small buffet available with fruit, yogurt, cold cuts, and breads.  We had this on the morning of our trip out to Kata Tjuta.  I chickened out and didn’t take any pictures of it as we didn’t have a lot of time before our group left on the tour.  That and with the tour being popular, the dining area was busy.

Now, if you have a more leisurely tempo a full table service breakfast is available.  Below are the pictures of the breakfast we had after our arrival.  We started with beverages, tea, and a glass of wine.  How else do you celebrate, then having a glass of wine with breakfast?

Tea & Wine with Breakfast

Our server Buddy, delivered our hot breakfast, and it was divine.  What made the breakfast so good?

Let’s start with the sleeper — the bread!  Yes it was wholegrain, and it tasted awesome.  Not the “but it had a kilo of sugar in it” taste, but genuinely tasted good.  The secret?  They bake it in-house fresh every day.  The next standout was the bacon.  It had the proper mix of cooked crunchy texture along with a helpful hint of salt.  I honestly think I skipped the tomato and mushrooms and let her have them.

On the day we checked out, we had another hot breakfast, however I cannot locate the pictures.  Trust me though, it was tasty!

Lunch

During our stay we the lunches were three courses affairs.  On the first day our lunch menu selection was the following:

I went with the salad, Lamb and Sorbet.  Amy (not the same who drove us to the resort) served us during the meal.  The salad was fine,

and next up was the main:

Up until this point lamb chops and rack of lamb was my extent of lamb related meals.  The lamb rumb was tasty.  The feta and yogurt on top worked well.  I did glance at her Prawn salad.  She enjoyed her main as well.

Dessert was simple and flavourful, sorbet.

Granted the portions aren’t gigantic, however our stomachs had a different opinion.  Each meal was filling.  As the resort isn’t in a rush to turn the tables, it’s up to you to determine the pace of the meal, as well as how long you wish to remain at the table after it finishes.  This approach greatly assisted in our feeling of being on vacation.

Lunch, Day 2

Again the meal started with our menu for the meal, but I didn’t take a picture to share.  Richard was our server for this meal.  However, as we had returned from a lengthy tour we were hungry, thirsty and celebrating her birthday early.  Our Entrees:

After our entrees were our respective mains:

My main was Kangaroo.  It was a loin cut, and it tasted excellent, most similar in texture and taste to beef.

Now for dessert was a treat.  Hudson delivered her early celebration birthday cake!

We powered through dessert and after some work we were successful in cleaning the plate.  Not surprisingly, we were a little tired afterwards.  On the upside we had plenty of energy for our evening tour later that day.

Dinner

Of the two nights we spent at Longitude 131, the second night featured their Table 131 — dinner under the open skies after dark.  I didn’t get the names of all the servers, however just like the ones I did remember, they were top notch.  We arrived at the dinner in darkness with a few lights to guide our way on the path.  Given the lowlight, this was the only picture that I captured while we enjoyed our meal:

Table 131

The courses were excellent.  For Amber, she opted out of wine sampling and enjoy the Riesling that won out of the five she tried earlier during the stay.  At the conclusion of the meal one of the staff gave us an introduction to the stars and constellations, making sure to highlight those only visible in the southern hemisphere.  With no moon on the horizon during the night, it was a star filled night.  Awesome!

Day 1 Dinner

Below are the pictures from the dinner on our first night.

“Lunch Box”

On our day of departure, the scheduled departure time would not allow us to have a full lunch and instead we were provided a lunch box to take with us to the airport and enjoy before or during our flight.  Once the link is live, click here, to be taken to the post that includes a mention of the filling lunch box that we were provided.

Overall

We found that the food at Longitude 131 exceeded our expectations.  This further reinforced our enjoyment of the stay.
