2025.10 UK & More – Newcastle Upon Tyne Doubletree Hotel

Want a functional, airport hotel within the Hilton brand in Newcastle? Well, good news, and there is the only option and it’s just fine for a few nights.

Location

The Doubletree is not located in the city, quite the opposite, it’s located right on the airport grounds. As Newcastle is a smaller airport, you will follow signs for the terminal, and only at the last moment does the hotel appear on the right, before the terminal begins.

If you have a flight at the airport it’s a short walk to and from the terminal. For us, driving it was easy to find, and initially upon entering the grounds you pass through a gate. And then there is another series of gates to enter the underground parking garage.

Check-in was good, and the staff had their add-on items ready: Would you like to upgrade to a larger room? Do you want to pre-purchase breakfast (I think that provided a smaller savings vs. paying after you eat)? Do you require parking?

Elevator

This one certainly proved that not all elevators are the same. This building has 3 floors of hotel rooms, reception on the ground floor, and then the car park in the basement. I couldn’t help to laugh that it had a full keypad for the buttons. Part of me hoped that another person would enter the elevator, type in a secret code, and we’d be taken to a super-secret location. Alas, that didn’t happen, but more than once, people didn’t press the button they wanted. I cannot vouch about their level of alcohol consumption, but this was an entertaining elevator to me.

We did have dinner the first night at the restaurant. We arrived after dark, and after navigating a bit of rush hour traffic through Newscastle. Neither of us had researched food options before we got to the hotel, and didn’t want to return to town. Overall, the meal was good, and unlike the Terminal 4 Hilton, this restaurant did not appear understaffed.

Breakfast

One of the best parts of being on vacation and selecting a hotel that has a full buffet in the morning is that it eliminates the need to find a place to eat. The selection during our stay was good. It had everything we needed to start the day with both hot and cold items and plenty of tea.

The first morning, the restaurant was quiet and it was great. Somehow not having a space full of people talking away is part of my preferred morning routine. The second morning, somehow was much more lively. Didn’t change the quality of the food, instead it had us finish our food and return to our room quicker than yesterday.

Room

I didn’t take pictures of the room as it appeared to be original to the building, and also felt pretty dark. Staff were excellent as they located a fan for Little Miss to keep her temperate throughout the night. Nothing to worry though, the room was spacious. The bathroom was a little closer to the ‘tiny’ category. My assessment was that the counter seemed to take up the majority of the space, and the space for the toilet was almost the same as the enclosed shower. Temperature and shower pressure were good.
