2018 – Part 61 Our home for a week!

After an effortless car ride from the airport to our hotel, we were able to check-in quickly.  I selected this hotel as it appeared to be close to transit to allow us to explore Sydney during weeklong stay.  It did not disappoint.

Best Western Hotel Stellar Sydney

This isn’t a resort style hotel.  If you’re looking for a hotel that is a destination for drinks, dining, featuring a pool, or rooftop bar, this isn’t it.  It’s an all suite hotel that offers guest laundry, and a cafe on the main floor.  The kitchenette in our room had everything we needed to make tea, and refrigerate snacks.  One meal we did heat up from the microwave, we didn’t try the panini press.

For us, this was everything we needed as we weren’t planning on spending a lot of time in the hotel.

Check-in

We arrived after 8pm and were quickly checked in.  The hotel hosts a few rooms per floor, and during our entire stay we didn’t meet any other guests on our floor.  It felt very private.  With the hotel being on the smaller side, we recognized the staff after a few days who were friendly every time we talked with him.

Room

Our room faced Wentworth Ave, and the windows were great in blocking out the din from the street.  The room was spacious and staying a week gave us the chance to finally unpack as we weren’t moving to another hotel in a few days.  I’d say it felt like, a vacation.  😉

Bathroom

The bathroom was in good condition, and the handheld shower had lots of pressure every time we used it during our stay.

Laundry

The rainy weather that delayed our flight continued on our first full day in the city.  This helped us decide to do laundry one last time during our vacation.  We didn’t have to wait to use the laundry, as I doubt most people plan to do laundry around lunchtime on a Sunday.  The room was easy to find, and we purchased detergent from the front desk.

Transit Options

At the corner, up the street from the entrance is the start of Hyde Park, and no shortage of buses cover this intersection.  From here it was easy to get to the downtown ferry terminal, or out to Bondi beach.  A short walk away was a train station (Museum) — this provides an option of how to get to/from the airport, as well as another way to get around Sydney.

If you go walk Wentworth away from Hyde Park, you’ll get to Sydney’s central station.  From here train connections through Sydney are possible.

Neighbourhood

Looking up to Hyde Park

We found this area to have everything we needed.  It had great transit options to get us around the city.  It was a leisurely walk away from the Australian Museum.  As well, there are several grocery stores nearby, with IGA & Aldi being the ones we visited during our stay.

We had dinner at a few of the area restaurants.  For us, The Ohbar Thai, and Pizza Autentico are definitely worth visiting.  We enjoyed breakfast at Two Good Eggs Cafe.

Evening lights around Hyde Park.

Finally, with any city neighbourhood, shops, including a pharmacy were a quick walk away.
