2025.10 UK & More – Premier Inn Penrith

While we made our way south from Newcastle-upon-Tyne, we wanted to check out different parts of the country. After traveling west along Hadrian’s Wall we stopped for the night in Penrith to make the most of the light the next day.

Location

The hotel was easy to find after exiting the M6 and heading towards Penrith. It’s located at the start of a small pedestrian area, so it had a car park with plenty of parking. The parking is shared with the Sainsbury next door, and with it closed explained the multitude of parking available on a Sunday evening. After checking in and dropping our luggage in our hotel room we went into the town and had dinner. The recommendation from the front desk ended up being the same chain that we visited with her relatives. We both chuckled about it as we found that the food from visiting was good.

Room

Premier Inn did an excellent job in the upsell. When I booked, the price difference between the regular and “Premier Plus” was small enough that I opted for the upgrade. My excuse was that there would be two of us, and a little extra space can go a long way.

Once you enter there is a tiny ledge along with an open closet. The bathroom was on the right and the room was clean and the bed was good for a one night stay.

The chair in the corner was comfortable, and the snacks and bottled water was appreciated as part of the upgrade.

Bathroom was good, however with a passive exhaust fan, it did get humid in there. The counter space was at a premium, and the rainfall showerhead looked like a good idea, however it did not extend far into the tub, and I felt like I had my shins near or against the taps to be under the shower.

Breakfast

I didn’t want to search for a place for breakfast so we opted for the buffet breakfast in the hotel. The selection was adequate for us. Afterwards, before leaving we went next door to the Sainsbury’s to purchase snacks and other road trip required fare.

Overall, this was a good hotel stay. I can understand the appeal of this brand as it’s basic hotel accommodation, but importantly is clean, tidy, and functional. If you knew the area, it’s easy to skip breakfast and grab something on the go. For us, it was everything we needed for a quick, one night stay.
