We needed a simple place to stay overnight near Auckland airport. The closest was an Ibis Budget. As we arrived late, it was a good thing that we selected a simple hotel for our night’s stay.

After a day spent in Napier, we returned to the road and had one scheduled stop before ending our day’s travel near Auckland airport ahead of our morning flight the following day.
However, we ended up stopping at a couple spots in Taupo that made the return drive unique and memorable.

We had a full day to explore Napier. What’s in Napier? It’s located in a wine region of New Zealand, home to the National Aquarium, and its downtown is one of a few that were built in an Art Deco style.
Our home in Napier for two nights was the County Hotel. Napier, located in the Hawke’s Bay region is home to many wineries, and lots of choices in accommodation. I selected the County Hotel on the basis that they had a rate that included parking, and breakfast. We were not disappointed!
