2021.12 Germany and christmas markets (Part 5) – Hilton Dusseldorf

After Mainz, our next stay was further downstream along the Rhine river, staying at the Hilton Dusseldorf for a few nights.  The location afforded a good location to visit Cologne for an easy day trip.

Location

This Hilton is not city center, instead in a business park area.  It’s not a car-only accessible hotel, as within a five minute walk you can get to a streetcar stop that will take you downtown.  In addition, there are several restaurants in the area.  The one we selected we really enjoyed, and in our typical style, made a return visit!

Check-in

Due to construction next door, the main entrance for vehicles was significantly reduced, however we were able to find a parking spot to complete check-in first.

If arriving by car, parking has two options, on-street, or parking garage.  I don’t care for hunting for a parking spot, so parked in the garage.  The hotel has a large quantity of conference space, and the parking garage is on the far end of the property.  Expect a bit of a walk from the parking garage, past the conference rooms, before returning to the front desk and elevators to get to to hotel rooms.

Check-in was quick and they had a festive garland, complete with chocolate, at the main desk.

Room

Waiting for us in our hotel room was a fruit tray.  I happily helped by quickly eating the chocolate and domino squares:

We were upgraded to an Executive room, however with the Executive lounge closed during our visit, we were offered the contents of the minibar for free.  It was a kind gesture as we enjoyed the water, juice and soft drinks.  I tried my best to enjoy the beer on the evenings before we walked to dinner.

The room is smaller than Mainz, as it only had a chair instead of a couch.  Here’s the pictures of the room:

Overall, the room was just fine.  Unlike Mainz, the windows would only open a very small amount.

Breakfast

After Mainz, my hope for a full buffet breakfast had morphed into the expectation of a plentiful breakfast buffet.  This hotel certainly lived up to expectations!

Out of this trip, this breakfast buffet spread was the largest.  It did not win because it had a selection of Christmas chocolates and treats available at breakfast. 😉

Coffee, tea and juice was self serve avoiding having to request something to wait on staff for delivery.  Here is a slideshow of the buffet that just kept going.

Restaurant

There was one restaurant that was open for lunch & dinner.  Located just past the check-in desk, they offered a simple list of food options.  We decided to have dinner here on our first night as neither of us wanted to walk to a nearby restaurant.  Food was good, I opted for a Cesar salad with chicken.

Overall, it was a good stay.  Clean, comfortable rooms.  Having complementary minibar items was a treat, and the breakfast was an outstanding way to start our days during our stay.  Although we were sad to check-out, our next stop was to visit family for a few days, and both of us were excited to visit them for the first time since 2018!
