2021.12 Germany and christmas markets (Part 4)

We had a long day of driving in which we drove from Frankfurt to Bavaria and met up with my brother.  Then we got back in the rental car and finished our day arriving in Mainz to stay for two nights.  It was a decent hotel, and the breakfast buffet selection was excellent.

Which hilton in Mainz?

When we travelled in December 2021, there were two Hilton branded hotels in Mainz, one along the river, and a city center location that we stayed at on Munsterstrasse.  Since this trip, and before composing this post sadly, the hotel is no longer part of Hilton, and I couldn’t even find it listed on other hotel brand, or consolidator websites.

Location, check-in

The car’s GPS delivered us with ease onto the one-way street to the hotel’s main entrance.  The parking garage was just past the main entrance.  Given the late hour of our arrival, there was no wait, and after sorting out things we were able to check-in, and received instructions on how to enter and use the parking garage.  We brought up our luggage after parking the car for the night.  The garage wasn’t busy and it was easy to park near the doors to the elevators.  Finally, up to our room and a well deserved night of rest.

Room

We were assigned a room facing the street as there was a square, it was nice and scenic.  I think there is a school of some kind across the square.  I was happy that not only did the window open, but also it could open fully without any limits.  This was helpful as we like a cool room to sleep, and the room was definitely warmer than our expectation when we first entered.

The room had a king-sized bed, a couch (didn’t check if it was convertible to another bed), table and chair.

The couch was comfortable as it served as our dinner location on our second night as we didn’t meet the requirements to dine out, and both of us wanted to relax.  We had spent the day before in a car, and had spent the day the Christmas market and central historic Mainz.  Ordering food online is just as easy in Germany as in North America.  We decided to watch something from her iPad instead of flipping through channels from the TV in the hotel.

Back near the entrance is a closet, along with the bathroom.  Here are the remaining pictures of the room in a slideshow (you can manually move to the next picture):

We were pleasantly surprised with an excellent breakfast buffet!

Breakfast

We were happy to find out that there was a breakfast buffet on offer on the ground floor.  It was away from the main entrance and check-in desk.  The hotel was not packed, as the breakfast area looked able to handle a lot of hotel guests at once.  Both mornings, we arrived near the end and only a few tables were taken by other hotel guests.  The selection was anything but pared down or minimized. Here is a slideshow of the breakfast area.  The food was well spaced out to give the potential crowds the ability to mill around the food options on offer.

We certainly made sure to sample as much as possible from the buffet.

This hotel is central, and close to the city in which the Cathedral was maybe a five minute walk away.
