2025.10 UK & More – Doubletree NDSM Amsterdam
I could claim that collecting loyalty points was one of the reasons we stayed in two different hotels while in Amsterdam. But the truth was that one hotel was significantly more affordable than the other. If visiting Amsterdam outside of peak season, the Doubletree at NDSM Amsterdam is definitely budget friendly.
LoCATION
This hotel is part of a brownfield project that has converted a former shipbuilding area into a mixed use area filled with offices, and hotels. I would imagine that apartments are part of this area, however I didn’t notice any. This area is easily accessible via the free ferry from Centraal station. In our case, just like in 2016, this hotel is easy to access by road. The hotel has a modest sized paid surface parking lot.
Upon arriving we were the only ones checking-in due to the late hour. We were assigned our room, and with a very full luggage cart took the elevator up to our room floor.
The design of this hotel is compact. The hallways did feel more tight than the hotel from our quick weekend in New York City, however we were assigned a room that definitely wasn’t tiny, not only because it was a corner room, but because this was much larger than the last room we stayed in.
Room
We were assigned a corner room that was overlooking the water and had a clear view to the ferry. Here’s a picture of the main area, by night and by day. The floor-to-ceiling windows are impressive.
I did try to take pictures once we had unpacked as the moon was in the night sky, and it just looked fantastic:
Bathroom
This is where the room was outstanding. It was huge. It felt like this bathroom was multiples of its fellow Doubletree that is beside Centraal station.
The only drawback was that the threshold for the door was raised. Fortunately from learning at the Dresden Hilton, I didn’t try to smash my toes off my foot this time.
Breakfast
We had breakfast in the restaurant on the ground floor. The buffet also had additional items that could be cooked to order. I didn’t order any items as I found the buffet selection more than enough for me.
Our stay here was only the single night. The added time to pack and unpack was easily justified by the price differential between this hotel and the Hilton Schiphol airport that we stayed at the next night.
In our prior stay, we did take the ferry to Centraal station, and it was a quick trip. If you want to save significantly compared to the centrally located hotels immediately around and near Amsterdam’s Centraal station, do give this hotel a glance.
