2018 – Part 17D – The Grotto
To help split up the many things we saw during this day, here is the third stop we checked out along the Great Ocean Road.
Parks Along the Great Ocean Road
First up, a reminder of our plan for the day:
These posts will focus on what we saw as we drove along the Great Ocean Road, the fourth arrow (middle) in the map. We stopped at five of the parks, and skipped two more along this section. Travelling west to east along the road, our third stop was the Grotto.
Bay of Martyrs to The Grotto
Again, the drive between these spots are short. As we crossed a bridge along the way the distance felt a little longer, but was probably less than ten kilometres at most. Again, the Grotto offered yet another view of how things can completely change along the ocean.
Great Ocean Road – The Grotto
Given the structure of the Grotto, the walk from the parking lot was a little bit more than Bay of Martyrs, however could easily be done without issue.
Just a few stairs
Once we arrived, there were a few stairs to get down into the Grotto. As you can tell from the pictures, the sun was continuing its race to the west, and we made the decision not to make the climb down into the Grotto.
In fairness though, the view from the walkway at the top was worth the break from driving.
Again there were signs to help explain what we saw:
Finally, a view from the short walk from the parking lot to the Grotto:The only downside of these parks so far was that there were no park buildings, and not a public toilet in sight. Without any towns along the way we hoped that our next stop would provide us with a bathroom break.
