I freely admit that this route to Australia is not what comes to mind to North Americans, when you say you are flying to Australia. For most people the route is westbound across the Pacific. In our case, routing through Europe gave us the chance to do two things during our stopover.
We departed our apartment Monday morning. After spending three nights in Mooloolaba, it was time to head to Brisbane to be close to the airport for our early morning flight on Tuesday.

Our short time in New Zealand had three goals; visit Hobbiton, go to a winery (or two), and visit an aquarium. Little did I know that we would see so much more.

We had two choices of how to return to Sydney; take the Hume highway that we took for several hours from Canberra into Victoria state, or a more scenic route. The choice was obvious, the scenic route between Melbourne and Sydney!
