2018 – Part 26 – Hotel Review Mercure Launceston

I was very happy to find the hotel, especially after a long day of driving.  The hotel is located across from the City Park.

MERCURE LAUNCESTON

The hotel is located just east of downtown, and is across from city park.  The confusing part is that the hotel is at one end of a “roundabout”, with the entrance to the parking lot being before the hotel.  I drove past the hotel before I realized I missed it and the parking lot.

Once turned around, we checked-in and then parked in their parking lot.  Below is a picture from the morning —  hills aren’t far away even at the hotel:

Parking Lot

From the picture above the hotel is constructed on a hill. Entering the hotel from the first parking area has you entering the hotel on level 1.  The lower (street) level for the hotel has reception, restaurant & bar.

Check-in & out

I’ll group these together as this was truly effortless.  Both were quick, easy and the staff were friendly.  They were on their empathy game too as once we mentioned which route we drove, the staff remarked “Yes, that’s not an easy route.”  Once we had our keys we headed upstairs to level 1 to our assigned room.

Room

Our room was renovated and was awesome.  Once inside and past the washroom was the bed.

Beside the bed has to be one in-demand items, built-in USB outlets!  This was definitely handy to charge our phones, battery packs, and dash camera.

Beside the bed was this comfy chair.  I found this to be comfortable to post the daily update to the blog.

Bathroom

Being a recently renovated room, the renovated bathroom although small, was functional and had several things to make use for the space.  Most important was that the rainfall shower that had great water pressure.  At the back of the shower were two small shelves for shampoo bottles.  The only downside was the volume of the fan.  It worked well, and was loud and would turn on with the lights.  This proved to be a bit of a distraction when I tried to get up early the next day and let her sleep in.

Two spots to put shampoo & conditioner, along with the towel rack.

Usually, with renovated bathrooms they appear to be made without consideration that hotel guests will have things to unpack and leave in the bathroom.  With the lack of counter space around the sink, the ledge was a saviour providing much needed space to leave our toiletries.

Shelf above toilet & sink

Closing out views of the room, there was a split HVAC unit.  It worked fine during our stay and helped get the room a comfortable cool temperature to let us sleep well.  I don’t think we even turned the TV on during our stay.  To the right of the desk were outlets

A few items upon entering the room was a closet, a built-in ledge for luggage storage (this is a great idea), space underneath for shoes.  The mini-bar & fridge was to the far right as pictured:

Breakfast

Breakfast Buffet

We both had dinner and breakfast in the restaurant.  Dinner was good, however I think having a drink was the highlight.  The breakfast the following morning was very good. In addition to everything pictured, you get to order a hot plate of eggs, and bacon!  We were very full from breakfast.

Overall, this was a solid hotel and we enjoyed our short stay.  After we checked-out we made our way towards the highway that links Launceston to Hobart for an easy drive to Hobart.
